By the end of Act V Normal, you will have faced at least one powerful Cold-immune (Frozenstein, and Duriel in Act II also has high Cold resistance in Normal and is immune in NM/H) and several immune monsters in the gauntlet that you face when confronting Baal. Persuasion – Helps you convince others to do something they don’t want to.You cannot survive even Normal difficulty with a Sorc that focuses on one skill, at least not without help (and help is rare in D2 nowadays most have moved on to D3).Performance – Helps you act, play instruments, and entertain audiences.Intimidation – Helps you successfully threaten people.Deception – Helps you manipulate the truth.Survival – Knowledge of tracking, foraging, hunting, and being familiar with natural hazards.Perception – Helps you detect hidden details in the environment.Medicine – Helps when healing wounds and diagnosing illnesses.Insight – Helps you read people and situations and determine what is true and what is a lie.Also helps you control your mount when they get startled. Animal Handling – Helps when dealing with animals.Helps in any skill checks pertaining to religions. Religion – Knowledge about deities, domains, clergy, and religious practices.Nature – Knowledge about all flora and fauna.Investigation – Helps your deduction and ability to extract information from the world and people.Helps you recognize notable names and unusual items. Used when interacting with enchanted items and powerful spells. Arcana – Knowledge of magic and its applications.Sleight of Hand – Helps when pickpocketing or getting out of traps.Acrobatics – Physical actions like balancing, staying on your feet, and dodging traps and enemy grapples.Athletics – Physical actions like climbing, jumping, shoving, picking things up, or swimming.In general, skill proficiencies give you plus one or two to skill checks, which is always a good thing. While skill proficiencies help you pass difficult skill checks, you also need them to wield specific armor and weapons.
